Student portfolios provide academic advisors and students an excellent vehicle for assessment and decision making. Portfolios have been successful in other educational realms and are readily adaptable to advising relationships. By setting goals, developing strategies, monitoring progress, and sharing ownership, students and advisors develop a holistic approach to assessment that is mutually beneficial. Advisement portfolios contain a wide array of work and information, with each partfolio tailored to an individual student.
