Five potential work profiles for full-time academic advisors, based on the impact of technology, are proposed. The forces accelerating the impact of technology are identified, and the impact of emerging technologies on full-time advisor practice is discussed.

George E. Steele, PhD, is Director of Educational Access at the Ohio Learning Network (OLN). OLN works with Ohio higher educational institutions interested in the use of technology to improve learning. In this capacity, he helps coordinate student services for participating Ohio institutions.
